Chris at work

File:US embassy new building in Moscow.jpg
This is the "new" embassy building.  There is a red wall that goes around the embassy compound.  The only way to get in is through a guard shack.  There are 3 or 4 of them.  On the compound, besides offices, there are housing units, the commissary, a pool, a gymnasium, a cafeteria, post office, hair cutting place, day care...  If you lived there, you literally would have no reason to leave unless you wanted to.

The building across the street that is white and yellow is the "old" embassy building.  This is where everyone goes to get their visas.

Obviously he hasn't had time to decorate yet.

Directly across the street from the American Embassy is the Russian White House.  Unlike in America, the president doesn't actually live here.  This is where the offices of the "bureaus" are housed.  Putin's office is in the Kremlin and his house is close to the Kremlin.

This picture is taken from the same place that the picture of the "New" embassy building is taken.

This is the Ambassador's house.  It is about a mile down the street from the embassy.  It is quite fancy inside.  Our current ambassador is leaving and we are getting a new one.
