Russian Monks 2014, Singing Monks

In this beautiful church the walls are covered with depictions of scriptural events and stories.  I'm not sure which scriptures they came out of but, they are spiritual stories.  It is no longer a working church but it is a museum at a Monastery.

The floors are all mosaics.

This is a saraphim.  These 6 winged "angels" are in all of the frescoes.  We were intrigued by them and asked and this is what we found out.  "The Book of Isaiah used the term to describe fiery six-winged beings that fly around the Throne of God crying "holy, holy, holy".  This throne scene, with its triple invocation of holiness (a formula that came to be known as the Trisagion) profoundly influenced subsequent theology, literature and art.  Its influence is frequently seen in works depicting angles, heaven, and apotheosis.  Seraphs are mentioned as celestial beings in the Book of Enoch, and the Book of Revelation.  Tradition places seraphs in the 5th rank of 10 in the Jewish angelic hierarchy and the highest rank in the Christian angelic hierarchy."  Wikipedia

This is the outside of the church.  If you can believe it, this is the best picture we could get with us in it.  Haha.
